Dedicated to the Triestine patriot Guglielmo Oberdan since 1919, the square was previously dedicated to the philosopher Giordano Bruno, to whom one of the streets that delimit it still remains.
In the last twenty years of the last century it has experienced a period of degradation, also due to the presence, along the perimeter of the flower beds, of hedges that offered protection from the sight of passers-by to those inside the garden. With the eradication of the hedges and the return of the flower beds, this problem was fundamentally solved.
In the first half of 2009 the square was subject to a further redevelopment operation, with its repaving, the replacement of the existing furnishings (benches, planters) and the installation of a new lighting system which helped to ensure a more safe usability of the square
